GrapeGuitarBox aka Teenasai Balamu is an indie musician based in Bangalore, India. She explores the alternative side of pop by interpreting popular songs in her own style, which is often very different from the original itself. The genre of her music would be described as indie/pop/acoustic.
About the Artist:
Teenasai, now a 23-year old, has been playing the guitar and singing since she was 15. A lot of her influences include not only indie/pop artists of today like The Lumineers, Angus and Julia Stone, Ed Sheeran, but also teenage throwback artists such as Linkin Park, Green Day, Simple Plan, and yes, even the Backstreet Boys. One of her greatest influences has been Tamil music, more specifically, the work of AR Rahman.
With her music, Teenasai wishes to create a space safe from labels, judgement, and discrimination; a space for all the misfits. She looks forward to collaborating with different kinds of artists in order to discover new sounds. Her debut EP is underway.
She’s been featured on media outlets such as Rolling Stone India, The Hindu, Deccan Herald, Deccan Chronicle, The Indian Express, NearFox, Planet Radio City, MTV India, The Inkline, and Humans Of India as one of India’s upcoming indie artists. She has also performed as an opening act for artists like Prateek Kuhad, Harish Sivaramakrishnan (of Agam), etc.
